High School in a Nutshell

“It’s okay. Even when it’s not okay. You took the long road. You took a few wrong turns. But it’s okay, you’re on your way home.”

I took the long road freshman year. I took the road frequently traveled. As a senior now, in my second semester of high school, I know this to be true. I can’t change it and I certainly can’t travel back in time.

What was I doing on this dark and ugly path you might ask? Well, nothing very dark or ugly. To be honest, I wasn’t doing much and that, my friend, was the biggest problem of all. Social media consumed my life. I didn’t want to go out because I was too busy watching Youtube videos or on Facebook. I have to ask myself: Did I know any better? I was never taught the dangers of social media because I don’t think a lot of my teachers, who were older than I, knew. And we let it consume our society. We look around now and see a million lights, yet it is merely a million phones. You can find me now with a book in hand or a journal because that is my choice. This is the life I have chosen and I have taken a new path. One that was hidden by a bunch of trees with branches lying all around. But despite how uninviting this path may look to others, its beautiful once you greet it and begin to know its true colors.

The beautiful part is that I have right now and many more “nows” to do exactly what I believe is right.

And so, I finish the same way I started with this quote:

“It’s okay. Even when it’s not okay. You took the long road. You took a few wrong turns. But it’s okay, you’re on your way home.”
